Cheap, mass-produced and sold as souvenirs, they reveal how politics, propaganda and kitsch can slip into the everyday.

This publication was printed on newsprint and sealed inside a gold envelope. Fragile materials and throwaway packaging were deliberate choices, a commodity and a curiosity.

First launched alongside Parr’s exhibition at Les Rencontres d’Arles, the book drew attention for its humour and cultural commentary. Today, with its fragile format and limited run, it is a rare collector’s piece.

From 2002–07, Martin Parr photographed the last

From 2002–07, Martin Parr photographed the last available parking space in car parks across 41 countries. A subject at once ordinary and universal becomes, through repetition, a typology of global desire and frustration.

The book is designed as a wedding album. White suede covers, gold-foil edges, an invitation card and signed limitation sheet, all presented in its own lined box. The materials exaggerate the “preciousness” of the empty space, framing absence as something worthy of commemoration.

Exhibited at Rocket Gallery, London, Parking Spaces was received as both playful and incisive. Its mix of wit and ceremony caught the attention of critics and collectors alike. With only 1,000 copies produced, each signed and boxed, it now circulates as a rare collector’s piece.
