Celestial
Paco Pomet
In Celestial, a monograph of Paco Pomet’s paintings made between 2017 and 2022, design becomes an act of storytelling. Across 112 pages, the book captures the surreal orbit of the Sun and Moon in Pomet’s work, using thoughtful materials, colour, and layout to honour both content and concept. Published in a limited edition of 500 copies by House of Pomet, the book was designed by VIKA and printed in Italy with exceptional environmental care.
The design of Celestial was led by the artworks themselves—a process rooted in sustainability, structure, and visual rhythm. Through paper choice, print detail, and narrative sequencing, VIKA created a reading experience that mirrors the movement of light through Pomet’s absurdist landscapes.

The brief began with a folder of images and a blank page. From there, every design decision was shaped by the work itself. The paintings were curious, luminous, full of quiet tension. They held time, light, and stillness. VIKA saw the need not to decorate the work, but to work with it and design a structure that could hold their tone.
Paper became a tool for pacing. A yellow stock carried the warmth of day; a dusky blue marked the close. We followed the sun and moon through the pages, just as they move through the paintings. A small dot graphic tracked their position across the book—an abstracted system built directly from the artwork. It became a way to keep time.
Typography needed to be clear and soft, so we used Futura for its roundness and quiet presence. Nothing shouts. Everything pays attention. This wasn’t about control—it was about listening, and responding with care.
Celestial is a book entirely inspiredby its subject. It moves through light and shadow, clarity and illusion, orbit and absurdity. The design doesn’t impose itself on Pomet’s work; it listens to it. Every paper, colour, graphic, and type choice serves the celestial rhythm at the heart of the book.
